Runewars Video Review

What’s Cool:

  • Random board every game
  • Both a War and a Quest game ( 2 in 1)
  • Nice production quality
  • Great battle system
  • Each race has a  different alignment
  • Heroes’ items are hidden from others until used
  • Four seasons with different effects

What’s Not:

  • Typos on the board, cards, and in the rulebook.
  • No separators in the box to separate all the pieces
  • Figurines are a little small
  • The dials and mountains increase the price and are unnecessary.

Neutral Information:

  • Needs a lot of room.
  • Big, half-empty box.

I never played a 3p game but i really like it 4p and 2p , the game is very well designed . If the miniatures were bigger , the tiles would´ve been bigger , and the ¨game¨ is big enough already.

My friends and I have played this game several times and have enjoyed it every time. I think the best part of this game is it plays on several levels. It’s not just a wargame, you have heroes on quests, diplomacy with neutral units, resource management and the different seasons effecting your turns. I strongly recommend if you buy this game to get the expansion as it adds to the fun of playing.

This is a great game, it’s like a light version of Twilight Imperium. My only problem is the combat, it’s silly to say the best and a little two much of a luck factor considering how much strategy and little luck there is out of combat.

why does this game have the same heroes from an older board game called Descent?
Was it TOO much to draw new ones?

Runewars has become my favorite game of all. I don’t agree with the others about the role of the Heroes. With a good strategy, they are one of the best ways to get the runes. If you play the game with the Exploration Tokens, the Heroes become even more important to victory.
All races are well balanced, I’ve already won with all of them. I love the way how each one works differently and thematically. The Elves tend to rely on influence, the Uthuk trust on their firepower, and so on.
The interaction is great. You have to pay attention to every move your opponents are doing, in order to figure out what are going to be your moves. There are opportunities to make alliances with other players, define agreements during the bid phases, bargain and even bluff.
In order to win the game, you have to know all the weaknesses and powers of your race, and know how all the different cards can work in your favor. A good mix of battles and diplomacy usually is the best way to vitory.
The game is best played with 3 or 4 people. If you played this game with only one person, please try again with more friends. Satisfaction guaranteed.
Thank you again for the great review of one of the best games around! I can hardly wait for the first expansion.
